summer learning

Since 2010, Boston Beyond has mobilized and scaled partnerships among the Boston Public Schools and youth development organizations to engage more than 47,000 students in high quality summer learning. The largest study to date on summer learning, commissioned by the Wallace Foundation and evaluated by RAND Corporation, showed that high attending participants in Boston Beyond’s summer learning model gained a statistically significant advantage over a control group in math, English language arts, and key social-emotional skills.

summer jobs

An evaluation of Boston’s summer jobs programs by Dr. Alicia Sasser Modestino of Northeastern University has found that participation in summer jobs leads to improvement in social and academic behavior, as well as reductions in criminal justice system involvement. Specifically, participation in summer jobs increases participants’ community engagement and social skills, raises aspirations to attend a four-year college, and improves job readiness skills.
